Hearing scheduled to examine PMD waste and fraud

WASHINGTON - A Senate Aging Committee hearing next week will focus on new Medicare prior authorization requirements for power mobility devices (PMDs). The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., will review a three-year CMS demonstration project requiring prior authorizations for PMDs in seven states. Sens. Baucus, Grassley urge CMS to use 'discretion' toward pharmacies

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A couple of marquee-name senators last week asked Medicare to cut some slack for pharmacies that have not gotten accredited. In a Jan. 26 letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Ranking Member Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, urged "discretion" in enforcing the requirement.
